Sharjeel Imam Seeks Interim Bail To Contest Bihar Elections Amid Ongoing UAPA Detention Case

National News: Student activist Sharjeel Imam, who has been lodged in jail under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act since 2020, has filed an application for interim bail. His purpose is to participate in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Imam approached the Karkardooma District Court in East Delhi. He wants to file his nomination papers from Kishanganj’s Bahadurganj constituency. The case will now be heard on Tuesday, as filing of nominations has already begun in Bihar.

Imam has specifically mentioned his desire to contest from Bahadurganj, a Muslim-majority constituency near the Bangladesh border. He plans to run as an independent candidate.
